Colourpop’s sister brand- Fourth Ray Beauty (FRB) has been blowing up recently on my Instagram feed and their constant new releases has everyone glued to the edge of their seat. Face milks? Tinted moisturisers? Face mists? Cleansers? And so much, much more. Honestly, I can’t keep up.
It seems like they’re always releasing a new product every other week. With all these releases, I’m sure some of you guys are wondering what are worth the coins and what you could pass on. Granted that this brand leans towards the affordable side, you might still want to do go through some reviews first.
Firstly FRB, is dermatologist tested and vegan. Paraben, gluten and cruelty-free as well. Sounding pretty good so far.
They offer free domestic shipping for orders above 30USD and free international shipping for orders above 50USD. This is right up my alley, I am a big believer in not paying for shipping. Oops!
So enough about the brand overview, time for the products review.
These are the items I will be reviewing in this post:
1) The Face Milks
- Turmeric, Watermelon, Acai, Matcha, Papaya, Coconut
2) The Comfort Duo
- BFD Cleanser and Cloud Bank Cleanser
3) Clean Slate Exfoliator
I was lucky enough to snag their head in the clouds kit, that contains 0.5oz of 5 of their face milks {Turmeric, Watermelon, Acai, Matcha, Papaya}.
They came in cute glass bottles and are so gorgeous. A+ for packaging.
Now as for the formulas, they all have more or less the same consistency. Imagine putting buttermilk into the freezer but without freezing it completely. Enough for it to thicken slightly but not enough for it to turn solid. That is how I would describe their face milks. Thick enough to hold their shape for a few seconds but thin enough for it be well spread.
Lightweight and refreshing- perfect for hot and humid Singapore. However, for colder climates, or people who are frequently in air-conditioned rooms this is more of a moisture booster that you can mix into your normal moisturiser and incorporate it into your routine.
If you have extremely dry skin and live in colder climates, I DO NOT think you can use this as a stand -alone moisturiser. If you have normal-oily skin and live in colder climates, it may work for you, but it really just depends on your environment and how dry it can get.
If you live in a hot and humid climate like Singapore, it would work for all skin types.
So in conclusion, great summertime moisturiser and a good moisture-enhancer to add to your moisturisers in the winter.
Individually, I think matcha is the most hydrating followed by papaya, then turmeric, coconut, acai and watermelon.
My recommendations:
Watermelon & Acai ~ Normal to Oily skin type (Balancing & Anti-pollution)
Turmeric ~ Dry-Normal (*possibly oily) (it has micro-glitter in it that makes it perfect for a glowy look)
Matcha & Coconut ~ Dry to Normal Skin Types (Energizing and Nourishing)
Papaya ~ All Skin Types (has an illuminating effect similar to the turmeric but without the micro-glitter)
I personally repurchased the 1oz versions of Acai and Coconut. I intend to get the watermelon and matcha face milks in the full-sized versions as well.
**I have realised that some of them do contain natural fragrance. So, for those of you who are fragrance-snobs if it’s a worry, please do your research before purchasing. 😊

The cloud bank milky cleanser is a god send for my dry skin. It's a perfect AM cleanser because it doesn't strip away the oils in my skin and leaves my skin feeling moisturised and soft. I've read many reviews that their AM-PM Gel cleanser can be a little more harsher for dry skin types and is better suited for oilier skin types. I personally have not tried it but it seems to be the type of cleanser you'd use if you're a heavy makeup-user/ oilier skin- type person. Or just want a really deep and thorough cleanse with the expense of removing almost if not all the oils.
The consistency is just like cold milk. Lathers nicely.
The BFD is A holy grail makeup remover-just don't get it in your eyes. It does not sting or whatever it just feels like a weird film on my eye that's hard to remove. Not very pleasant.
To use apply to dry skin and lather and splash water to turn into a milky consistency. Follow up with a cleanser of choice to double-cleanse. Tbh I think BFD is good and amazing. But it also has a lot of reviews on it and it's basically an oil that removes makeup. It's great because you don't waste cotton pads and that you can really massage in into your skin to remove heavy makeup. Affordable and very effective.
3) Clean Slate Exfoliator
To be honest, it's decent. It's like a tea tree (oil) clay exfoliator. It has AHA,BHA and enzymes in it so it can make your skin sensitive to the sun. So do remember to slap on sunscreen if you do use it.
It feels minty and spicy- the typical feeling of applying tree tea oil on your face but this time it really feels like it's penetrating into your skin. For it's price point it's a great physical and chemical exfoliator. I am sure there are more better ones out there, but this is pretty good on its own. Just depends whether it's suited for your skin. I feel like it's perfect for all skin types. It doesn't blow my mind nor does it disappoint. It's average. or slightly above average for it's price point.
And that's about it. All in all- Good job Fourth Ray Beauty. The comfort duo has easily become my part of my must-haves. The face milks are pretty good. But it's not life changing. It's a pretty basic moisturiser that I'd probably repurchase because it's lightweight and I need to hit 50USD to get free shipping. Acai, Watermelon and Matcha are my favourites. Coconut gets an honourable mention.
Clean Slate Exfoliator, would not repurchase unless I'm lying low on cash and need a decent exfoliator. I personally just prefer my tea tree oil 3-1 scrub/mask/ cleanser from thebodyshop.
I hope this review was helpful. Till next time,
